Donna & Brigitte Morrissey visit USS
Last Updated on Thursday, 19 April 2012 18:23
The pair will spend the morning at elementary schools, with Donna Morrissey reading her new children’s book, Cross Katie Kross, which was illustrated by her daughter, Bridgette.
They will be at Joseph Gould Public School from 9:15 to 10:15 am before going to Uxbridge Public School where they will appear from 10:45 until 11:40 am.
The Morrisseys will then go to Uxbridge Secondary School (USS), where a gourmet lunch will be provided by USS students in the Specialist High Skills Major Hospitality program.
Then, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm, the two will provide separate presentations, with Donna speaking to USS English students about writing, and Bridgette presenting to USS art students on the process of illustrating a children’s book.
It’s a wonderful opportunity for students, says USS principal Lucy Black.
“I always think it’s important to have people in who are practitioners, to talk about current realities with students,” she says.
Donna Morrissey is the author of four internationally-acclaimed novels – Kit’s Law, Downhill Chance, Sylvanus Now, and What they Wanted, along with a screenplay entitled Clothesline Patch and her recent children’s book.
Bridgette Morrissey holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. She paints full time and resides in Halifax.
The media is welcome to attend the Morrisseys’ appearances. To attend, please contact Lucy Black prior to the event at 905-852-3391. On the day of the event, please begin your visit to the school at the office.
