French

DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL LANGUAGES(updated by S. Roberts Jan. 25, 2010)

Artist In The School

Dr. Foster’s Grade nine Applied French class worked with an Artist in the Schools,  Jim Parker, to produce a song! The students created the plotline of a crime committed in the school as an application of the crime unit in the course. Then Mr. Parker  studio mixed an arrangement at his studio. Each student was recorded on Mr. Parker’s portable studio and now each student has a copy of the French CD! Thanks to the Durham District School Board Arts Facilitator James Klodnicki for promoting this collaborative approach to learning language through art forms.

Significant Recent Events!

  • Dr. Foster’s grade 11 immersion and grade 12 Core French classes attended the Bilingual Link Conference and Job Fair sponsored by Canadian Parents for French on October 8th. Students were able to interact with employers of bilingual companies and agencies. They also had the privilege of listening to Justin Trudeau, son of Pierre Elliott Trudeau, who spoke almost exclusively in French about his experiences as a bilingual journalist and documentary film maker.

New Courses !

  • We are pleased to offer our French Immersion students a NEW grade nine course in Dramatic Arts and a grade twelve university preparation course in Interdisciplinary Studies. The Drama course will replace the Business Technology (BTT) course and the senior Interdisciplinary course will allow our immersion students to have another option in the French program that can be credited toward their university prerequisites.
